Curvy Monk by Q-Rai Curvy Monk by Q-Rai
Wow, I think this was my quickest manipulation ever (about 3,5 hours). But also one of my best, so far. I tried out masks for the first time and I must say they're absolutely brilliant!! I mean, including the copyright note, there are only 5 layers! My usual pictures tend to have about 10...I like the reflection of the eyelashes on the pupil!

Since I had no idea what to call the picture I searched for quotes and sayings about magic...and stumbled upon the following:
Magic lives in curves, not angles. ~Mason Cooley
Seems to be true here, doesn't it?

Credits and a big thank you go to
:iconluckystock: for the cool glass ball! [link]
:iconxnickixstockx: for the eye [link]
:icondrezdany: for the monastery background[link]
and
:iconkuschelirmel: for her walkthrough on [link] because this was what made me try masks!

I like how the lashes reflect on the pupil!
The glass part looks a lot nicer in fullview :)

edit:
Since a friend told me the reflection was nice but completely unrealistic (which I was fully aware of but my laptop gimp has fewer functionality than my desktop computer), I changed the background part of the ball. To be able to tell what the result should look like, we did a little povray exercise, pretending to study Computer Graphics :D (well, it was pretty useful, I admit). So this is what the reflection looks like with Fresnel reflection! :giggle: This took me another one and a half hours or so.
I even made a comparison picture! [link]

Cheers,

Reminds me of this surreal band: The Residents.
You simply MUST check out their video: "Third Reich 'N' Roll"

That's so smooth. It doesn't even look like a manipulation. I thought it was a Poser scene at first.
Right on, right on!

Thank you so much! :D It's a high compliment to have a manip mistaken for a render
Well this may be due to me trying out what the reflections would look like with raytracing :)

You absolutely have to try! Masks make your life sooooo much easier! It's unbelievable! Just try them out :giggle: you'll love them! there is a lot of good tutorials for masks :) I used the one linked in the description (though it's more a walkthrough than a tutorial..I tend to prefer trying things out instead of reading about them ;)

You're welcome! I hope I could help you

Ah! Haha I know someone who lives somewhere around your place, too. Southwest it was though, I think. (but no, I can't remember the name XD it was the last but one station of the metro though)
Yup, it's (in) Kaiserslautern. Around here it's one of the biggest cities but in fact it's pretty small compared to other German cities.

this reminds me of lord of the rings... The reflection of the eyelashes in the eye is cool, but it's a little confusing because the eyelashes themselves are not in the shot

Lord of the Rings...hum, maybe.. :D I've only seen part one and it's been a while since I read the novel.
Yup it is :) It was one of the main reasons I chose this eye instead of a similar one.
